At KINTSUGI atelier – tsugi nuova, participants learn the traditional art of kintsugi using natural urushi lacquer while repairing their own cherished vessels by hand.

It is a time to sit with the scars of an object, to trust in the quiet strength of urushi, and to work slowly and attentively through each step of the process.

My hope is that this becomes a small place of renewal—a place where vessels, memories, and everyday life may be reunited. By reflecting on the stories each object carries, participants are invited to return their treasured vessels to daily life with their own hands.

Introduction Course

The journey begins with a five-session Introduction Course, where participants learn to repair small chips and minor damage.

Starting from the earliest stages of preparation, you will be guided carefully through the fundamental techniques of traditional kintsugi. Alongside practical work, lectures introduce the history of kintsugi and the materials that make it possible, including urushi lacquer.

Beginner Course & Intermediate Course

Participants who complete the Introduction Course may continue to the Beginner and Intermediate Courses.

Beginner Course

This course revisits the repair of small chips introduced in the Introduction Course while deepening your understanding of urushi and its handling. Through continued practice, participants develop greater confidence and sensitivity in the art of repair.

Intermediate Course

This course focuses on vessels with cracks, breaks, or significant losses. Participants work through the entire restoration process from beginning to end.

The course also explores more creative approaches to restoration, including the use of metal powders, colored urushi, and yobitsugi (the practice of joining fragments from different vessels), with particular attention to the harmony between the original object and the repaired areas.

•  Courses held in Japan are conducted in Japanese. Participants should be comfortable with everyday conversational Japanese. 
•  These courses are intended for those who wish to experience traditional urushi kintsugi, repair treasured vessels with their own hands, or enjoy learning a traditional craft. They are not professional training programs for future instructors or artisans. 
•  The course structure follows the educational framework established by the International Kintsugi Master Association.

Presso KINTSUGI atelier – tsugi nuova, è possibile apprendere le tecniche tradizionali del kintsugi con lacca urushi naturale, restaurando con le proprie mani gli oggetti a cui si è più legati.

È un tempo dedicato all'ascolto delle ferite di un oggetto, alla fiducia nella forza silenziosa dell'urushi e al gesto lento e paziente della riparazione.

Il mio desiderio è che questo diventi un piccolo spazio di rinascita: un luogo in cui oggetti, memorie e vita quotidiana possano incontrarsi di nuovo. Un luogo in cui soffermarsi sulle storie custodite da un recipiente e accompagnarlo nuovamente nella vita quotidiana attraverso il proprio lavoro.

Corso Introduttivo

Il percorso inizia con un Corso Introduttivo articolato in cinque incontri, durante i quali i partecipanti imparano a riparare piccole scheggiature e danni di lieve entità.

Dalle prime fasi di preparazione fino alle finiture, le tecniche fondamentali del kintsugi vengono spiegate e praticate con attenzione e gradualità. Le lezioni teoriche approfondiscono inoltre la storia del kintsugi e la conoscenza dei materiali tradizionali, in particolare della lacca urushi.

Corso Base e Corso Intermedio

Dopo il completamento del Corso Introduttivo, è possibile proseguire con il Corso Base e il Corso Intermedio.

Corso Base

Riprendendo le tecniche apprese durante il percorso introduttivo, il Corso Base permette di consolidare l'utilizzo dell'urushi e approfondire la comprensione dei processi di riparazione.

Corso Intermedio

Questo corso è dedicato al restauro di oggetti con fratture o perdite più importanti. I partecipanti affrontano l'intero processo di riparazione dall'inizio alla fine.

Si esplorano inoltre modalità più espressive di intervento, come l'impiego di polveri metalliche, urushi colorata e la tecnica dello yobitsugi (l'unione di frammenti provenienti da oggetti differenti), sempre ricercando un equilibrio armonioso tra il manufatto originale e la sua riparazione.

•  I corsi svolti in Giappone sono tenuti in lingua giapponese. È richiesta una conoscenza del giapponese sufficiente per la conversazione quotidiana. 
•  I corsi sono rivolti a chi desidera conoscere il kintsugi tradizionale con urushi, restaurare personalmente oggetti di valore affettivo o avvicinarsi a un'antica pratica artigianale. Non hanno finalità di formazione professionale per insegnanti o artigiani. 

 La struttura didattica segue il modello formativo dell’International Kintsugi Master Association.
